Philosophy Statement

Acting on our belief that each child is unique and beloved of God, Morro Bay UMCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual development of young children. As an integral part of our curriculum, informal religious instruction will include spiritual values such as acceptance, concern, love and trust. While we incorporate and celebrate the integrity and richness of our own Christian traditions, we respect and welcome the diverse religious and cultural backgrounds of all people.

Our program is based on the knowledge of child development and includes a curriculum which strives to meet the standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We are aware that each child develops according to his or her own readiness.

We employ qualified and experienced staff for teaching and childcare.

All Staff meets State qualifications of employment in Early Childhood Education programs. Our team of professionals believes in providing a safe, loving, and nurturing environment.

We trust that from our school will come nurturing of children so that our community will prosper because we cared.

Program Goals:

Childhood is a time of wondrous possibilities: a time of exploration, and self-expression. Foundations of success are being established. We believe in a happy balance between innocence and experience. We recognize and respect each child's need to enjoy the wonder of the early years and at the same time to begin preparations for life.

At Morro Bay UMCC, we feel privileged to serve the unfolding promise of each child and strive to provide for each child:

The freedom to choose materials and activities to work with that are appropriate for the individual developmental levels.

A learning environment which reflects diversity of our community and fosters appreciation of the differences and similarities among all people.

An atmosphere that promotes personal responsibility, freedom of choice, problem-solving skills, self-esteem, independence, love and respect.

A "prepared environment" which possesses an inherent order and allows children to learn at their own speed in a non-competitive atmosphere.

Experiences to learn by doing in a safe, trusting, nourishing, and creative environment for both children and their families.

The Staff: An Unwavering Commitment to Every Child

Teachers have four principal goals: To awaken the child's spirit and imagination; to encourage the child's normal desire for independence and high sense of self-esteem; to help him develop the kindness, courtesy, respect responsibility and self-discipline that will allow him to become a full member of society; to help the child learn how to observe, question, and explore ideas - to think and discover - independently and in community.

 Come Grow With Us!

As part of our mission here at Morro Bay United Methodist Children’s Center it is our objective to serve children and their families of our community. In moving through our third year we have continued to grow by offering a unique learning experience that promotes self-esteem, creativity, respect for our families, our community and ourselves. These attributes of peace, tolerance and acceptance are vital in an increasingly complex world. We trust that from our school will come a nurturing of children so that our community will prosper because we cared.

Our After School Program offers a family atmosphere in which the children have a true sense of belonging. Within our doors the MBUMCC children are able to communicate and socialize freely with their peers in a non-competitive, loving and safe environment. Offering homework support, team-building games and physical activities create a stimulating and energizing home away from home.

Our Preschool celebrates a time of exploration, experimentation and self-expression. We recognize and respect each child’s need to enjoy the wonder of the early years while at the same time help begin preparations to grow and develop as an individual.

It is our intention and duty to the community to ensure that the Morro Bay United Methodist Children’s Center thrives and flourishes to provide quality childcare for generations to come. Through our faith, trust and belief we have had the privilege to create an environment secure in its philosophy fostered through a curriculum guided by compassion and creativity. We thank you for your encouragement and hope you please consider continuing to support the Morro Bay UMCC.
